CBPR Grants Program Description and Priorities

The Midwest Division of the American Cancer Society will provide grants in support of high quality community-based research activities that address the purpose and priorities of the CBPR program, including a focus on cancer health disparities.

Program Priorities
  • The priorities of the Midwest Division are:
o Breast and cervical cancer screening and treatment disparities
o Colorectal screening and early detection
        o Quality of life
        o Access to treatment
        o Tobacco use reduction
  • We recognize that important issues related to cancer health disparities fall outside of our four established areas of priority and may be a suitable topic for an application.
  • Proposals must demonstrate community involvement and address health disparities in one or more aspect along the cancer continuum, from prevention (e.g. tobacco, nutrition), to screening (e.g. breast, colon, cervical, prostate) to quality of care (e.g. treatment disparities, access to care).
  • Priority will be given to those proposals that demonstrate a potential for changes in community or health care systems that, upon completion of the project, could lead to sustained efforts, stronger partnerships, and a lasting impact.

Funding Parameters
  • CBPR Grants will be awarded for a total amount of $50,000 ($25,000 per year for two years)
  • The initial phase of a two-year proposal may be a planning period
  • For the two-year awards, satisfactory progress must be demonstrated during the first year to qualify for second year funding
  • Final installments for awards will be contingent on meeting all program and budget requirements
