Road To Recovery

Help Someone on their Road to Recovery

Road to Recovery is a volunteer driver program designed to provide transportation for cancer patients who need help getting to and from their cancer treatments and doctor appointments.  The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to become Road to Recovery drivers.

More people are surviving cancer, yet getting to and from treatments and doctors appointments can be very challenging. In fact, transportation is the number one reason patients miss or don’t schedule needed appointments. Volunteer drivers can relieve a lot of stress for families that are trying hard to cope.

If you have some free time, a reliable vehicle and an interest in helping patients get to and from treatments and doctor’s appointments, volunteer to become a driver. All individuals, as well as community groups and businesses are invited to contact 1.800.227.2345 to participate.

 Why We Keep Driving

“My name is Lisa.  My journey through breast cancer began in January 2010 after being diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Besides all the emotional and physical difficulties I had to endure during this time, transportation to and from my many medical appointments was a major problem for me.  My stress level was almost unbearable. I contacted The American Cancer Society at my wits end and was told about the Road to Recovery program. From that day forward I didn't worry about a ride. What a HUGE relief. Now after close to a year later I have completed all my treatments. I could not have done it without the kind caring people that helped me at ACS and the volunteer drivers of the Road to Recovery program, Thank You!” - Lisa, Breast Cancer Survivor

“Road to Recovery allows me to meet people I would never otherwise meet.  They are all unique, interesting, and extremely thankful for the rides.”  - Andy, Road to Recovery Driver

“I'm pretty sure I have been driving for close to 20 years and am still as committed to the program as I have ever been. Why? Because I consider it a personal ministry, and have been richly blessed by each person I have driven. I feel honored to have shared in their lives, stories, and personal journeys. The incredible grace each person demonstrates, and their thankfulness is more than enough to keep me coming back as a volunteer.”  - Gayle, Road to Recovery Driver
